Film fans will be able to see an Oscar-winning movie on screen in Royston next week at a special screening.
Sound of Metal (15) will be shown for one night only at Royston Picture Palace on Friday, June 18.
Containing strong language, the acclaimed drama about a heavy metal drummer stars the Oscar-nominated Riz Ahmed.
Ex-addict Ruben (Riz Ahmed) is on tour with his girlfriend and bandmate Lou (Olivia Cooke), hammering out ferocious sets night after night.
His hearing is already fading, but when it takes a sudden and devastating turn for the worse, his life is thrown into turmoil.
If he can’t recover his hearing, who will he become?
In a group home for Deaf addicts, Ruben must choose between his new Deaf community and fighting to hold on to what has always defined him.
Director Darius Marder uses innovative sound design to create a powerful soundscape of scrapes and muffles that give you a real sense of Ruben’s sonic experience and interior world; including his utter panic as he is jolted into a new, quieter way of being.
Injecting visceral, edgy circumstances with great sensitivity, and strengthened by tough-minded performances from Ahmed and Cooke, Sound of Metal is a poignant portrait of a man finding his way to a new revelation.
The movie fittingly won the Best Sound Oscar at this year's Academy Awards, with lead Riz Ahmed also nominated in the Best Actor category.
The film will be playing for one night only at the community cinema in Melbourn Street, Royston, on June 18 at 7.30pm.
The Royston Picture Palace screening will be captioned, and will also include a recorded Q&A with subtitles for deaf/Deaf and hard of hearing and BSL translation, with actors Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci and director Darius Marder.
