There was sheer delight for Royston Rockets as they produce some outstanding performances at the British BMX Racing Championships.

Held in Derby, 38 from the club took part, part of around 1,300 from across the UK.

And the hopes of becoming British Champion in their age group came true for some of them.

Day one saw the cruisers and 12 and under groups competing, and it proved a perfect day for the Cadman-Carpenter siblings.

Annalise became British champion in the cruiser 13-14 category while Freddie took top honours among the cruiser 17-18s.

Teddy Harradine (male 9) and Andreas Boukouvalas Loubiere (male 12) achieved quarter final positions while Cara Rushforth (female crusier 30+), Lui-Kye Mapp (15-16 cruiser) and Emma Deane (female 9, racing in her first British Championships) got to the semi-finals.

Jack Hudson made the podium with third in 30-39 cruiser.

Day two was all bout racing for those aged 13 and over.

Rocco Rushforth and Jack Strong made the quarter-final in the open 15, as did Eliot Willmott and Hayden Stone for the open 16 and Zac Childs for open 13.

Harriet Alexander and Remi Godfrey reached the semi-finals in the female 17-29 group with both Josh Izzard (open 19-29) and Ben Millington (open 13) battling hard for a position in the finals in their semis.

Elizabeth Bown achieved a podium position, a third in the champions women (17+) and both Freddie Cadman-Carpenter (open 17-18) and Annalise Cadman-Carpenter gained seventh place in their respective categories.

Rockets chairman Phil Townsend said: "The weekend was a huge success and is always inspirational for our riders.

"I was particularly pleased to see we had come second as a club within the East region.

"The Championships concludes with a parade around the track and for the East region this means dressing in anything yellow.

"Its loud, fun and particularly enjoyed by our younger riders."

Next up for the club is the East Anglia Championships, which takes place  at their Burns Road track on Sunday, September 15.

Racing begins at noon and anyone who wants to spectate and see what the club is about can do so.
