Royston Probus Club started its 20th year in operation with an annual general meeting at Royston Golf Club.

Probus (professional and business) is a regional, national and international association of retirees who come together to meet people with similar interests.

At the meeting, the outgoing chairman Geoff Grainger passed the baton on to the new chairman John Redfearn after a year's service.

The club meets at the Golf Club on the second Thursday of each month to enjoy a drink, lunch and conversation.

At every second meeting a speaker is invited to talk about a topic after lunch. Recent speakers have included a test pilot, a submarine commander, a former SAS member, a BBC director, a master of ceremonies and a local historian.

Club members also go on days out, with recent visits to Westminster Hall, the abandoned Aldwych Tube Station and the London Kingsway Tube Tunnel.

There are currently 32 members, some of whom meet regularly at other times for social meetings and sporting events.

A club spokesperson said: "Members come from a wide variety of occupations so there is much to be gained from chats over a drink."
