Children at Steeple Morden Primary School have been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, with merit, for their efforts to protect the planet.
A group of pupils met frequently to discuss ways to take care of the environment and make more sustainable choices.
They improved the school grounds by planting new trees and wildflowers and growing vegetables, and ran a school-wide campaign to reduce energy use by encouraging people to turn off lights and devices when not in use.

Children also identified the need for larger bins to accommodate litter so it no longer overflows into the playground.
Eco-Schools is an international programme that rewards schools for their sustainable actions.
