The Jolly Postie pub in Royston organised a day of festivities to raise money for families in need.

On Saturday, July 22, the Baldock Street pub hosted a gin tasting festival, with fun and games for children including face-painting, Snakes and Ladders and Connect 4.

Children could also guess the number of sweets in a jar for a chance to win the jar.

Mayor of Royston Cllr Lisa Adams attended the event, along with firefighters from Royston Fire Station who entertained families with their fire engine.

The festival has so far raised £415, with donations still coming in and the number expected to grow in the coming days and weeks.

All the proceeds will go towards the Sunny Days Children's Fund which supports children under 18 with conditions such as leukaemia, cerebral palsy and terminal illnesses, as well as deafness and blindness.

The charity's work includes providing funding for medical equipment, day trips, respite or making the remainder of the children's lives as comfortable as possible.

Currently 1,200 families are being helped by the charity through grants or holidays, while countless others are receiving support and advice.

Speaking after the event, Jason Smith, general manager of the Jolly Postie, said: "I’m so proud of Royston, what a fantastic community that we live in.

"Here at the Jolly Postie, we believe in our community and we believe in going the extra mile, to ensure we support one another.
