Royston Business Improvement District (BID), Royston First, has appointed a new manager to support the town’s businesses and deliver key services and projects for the market town.

Paul Brown, a business owner himself, will take on the new role from June 2023, having previously managed Love Newmarket BID, representing over 350 businesses in Newmarket, Suffolk.

Paul led the organisation through successful re-election and contributed to several initiatives that improved both the standing of the organisation and the district. Prior to working in Newmarket, Paul worked as a director at Bury St Edmunds BID between 2018 and 2019.

Upon taking the role, he said: "I am very excited to be joining Royston First. I look forward to working with the Board and key stakeholders in delivering a successful renewal and beyond."

Royston First chair, David Smyth, added: "We are delighted to welcome Paul Brown as the new manager of Royston First BID.

"Paul brings a wealth of experience with business experience and BIDs. It’s fantastic to have such an experienced, respected, and passionate person steering the future of Royston’s business community.

"He will be engaging with local businesses and working closely with them as we focus on the BID renewal for the remainder of the year.

"We want to ensure the BID listens to suggestions from businesses, understands their needs, and helps facilitate positive changes for the business and wider community.”

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led initiative, usually in a town or business park.

The Royston First BID has been running since 2009 and covers both the town centre and the industrial estates.

Currently in the last year of its third term, this November, Royston First BID will be asking businesses who are BID levy payers to cast their vote for the ballot, in the hope the BID can be renewed for another five-year term, to run from 2024 to 2029.
