Royston Runners saw more than 20 participants race to the finish line at the London Marathon last weekend, including many who were taking part for the first time.

Royston Runner Sharon Windebank successfully completed the course, running in support of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in memory of much-loved local business woman Julia Brooks.

Julia Brooks was the founder of CB4 media in Royston, and was a driving force in the Royston First team.

She sadly died from cancer in September last year.

A tribute from Royston First said: "She touched so many people’s lives and was thought of very highly by all that knew her."

Also taking part was first-time London Marathon runner Eric Taylor, who won his place through Royston Runners in November.

He said: "Running the marathon was an amazing experience.

"I started running with the club through the Couch to 5k programme - to be running the London Marathon a few years later has been a dream come true.

"The support and crowds around London were unbelievable. I had such a great time I’ve already entered the ballot for next year!"

Eric ran alongside three other members, who all crossed the line at the same time (five hours and 29 minutes).
