Autumn is just around the corner – and it won’t be long before the leaves start changing colour. And with only a handful of apartments still available at Mill View, now is the perfect time to move into your new home in preparation for the colder months of the year.

Developed by bpha, Mill View is an independent living community in Cambridgeshire designed exclusively for those aged 55 and above. Mill View offers a blend of comfort and care, ensuring a vibrant and reassuring lifestyle for its residents.

Wendy Francis-Wood, 89, is a retiree living in a two-bedroom apartment at Mill View.

She had previously lived with her husband in a bungalow in Histon, just outside Cambridge. But after he passed away, Wendy struggled to maintain the home due to her osteoarthritis.

“When you’re running a big house on your own and you’re not very mobile, everything goes wrong,” Wendy said. “Since my husband died, I wasn’t happy there. I needed lots of help – a gardener, a cleaner...

“I don’t know what would’ve happened if I hadn’t moved. I couldn’t cope. But luckily, I found this place.”

It was important to Wendy that she found a home nearby so that she could continue to visit her son, as well as having her own balcony so that she could enjoy watching the world go by.

“We came to look at Mill View and I was absolutely smitten,” Wendy said.

With the help of sales advisor Janet Bennett and the rest of the Mill View team, Wendy moved into her new apartment in August last year.

She quickly noticed one of Mill View’s distinguishing features – its strong community feel.

“My neighbours are very helpful,” she said. “I’ve made lots of friends. They greet you when you’re new.

“Everyone is lovely here. It’s just a nice place to be.”

She has made full use of the onsite amenities, including the rooftop restaurant, the convenient shop and the hair salon.

“I go to eat at the restaurant every day as everybody chats to you. It’s a real social hub.

“I use the hairdressers and the shop regularly – they’re so handy!”

Wendy said that there are plenty of activities to enjoy – with everything from coffee mornings and board games to exercise and city excursions.

There is also a residents’ committee, which ensures that any issues can be raised and quickly resolved to create a harmonious living environment.

Mill View provides a range of personalised care options, which are flexible to ensure that each resident is assisted in the manner most suitable to their lifestyle and health requirements. For added reassurance, an emergency response service provides peace of mind in case of unforeseen circumstances.

“The good thing is that it has stopped my family worrying about me,” Wendy said. “They know I’m in good hands – we’ve got 24-hour care here.

“And I don’t worry anymore either, because I know if I fall there’s somebody here to help me.”

Staff are on hand to help with daily tasks – whether that involves making the bed or taking out the bins.

“The carers are lovely, and I feel very comfortable with them,” Wendy said. “They’re almost like friends. The manager is wonderful too – there’s a real family feeling.”

But most of all, Wendy enjoys the comfort, safety and security of her luxurious retirement accommodation with its fully-equipped kitchen, open plan design and balcony offering panoramic views of the gorgeous Hauxton Meadows and River Cam.

“I love the view from my window,” Wendy said. “I can see the trees by the river and I can see life going on, which is marvellous. You see fathers teaching kids to ride their bikes, people going out on dates.

“The East Anglian skies are wonderful: all the clouds and all the colour. It’s beautiful.”

As the seasons begin to change, now is the time to make the move to Mill View.
