Citizens Advice North Herts calls for more volunteers as cost-of-living pressures continue to bite.

Volunteers are needed now more than ever to help make a difference to the people of North Herts and Stevenage, as local registered charity Citizens Advice North Herts (CANH) continues to see soaring demand for its services.

We have launched an appeal for new recruits from all backgrounds who can give their time to help people struggling with problems including rising household bills, debt and housing issues.

As well as volunteers offering advice to people in person, online or over the phone there are opportunities to provide expertise in areas such as fundraising, marketing and delivering workshops - or providing administrative or IT support to the charity. Full training will be given.

Volunteers are often looking to gain valuable experience or to use their existing skills in new ways.

Many want to have an impact in their community and find a sense of purpose in helping others.

Debbs used to work as an office manager, and has volunteered at CANH one day a week for the last five years, helping with health and safety and IT maintenance.

She said: "I wanted to volunteer somewhere I could use my existing skills, learn new ones and keep up to date with the latest software and technology - at the same time as helping my community.

"I have become more confident and feel like I am part of a wonderful team at CANH.  I have learnt so much more than I ever thought I would, especially with the constant software changes and government guidelines relating to data protection etc.

"My colleagues are fabulous and are always on hand to share their help and advice. I always look forward to the social gatherings and to our fundraising events."

CANH volunteers come from all walks of life and choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. Our volunteers include students, those getting back into work after career breaks, people with part-time jobs, carers, and retirees.

Rosie Waters, chief executive at CANH, said: "Now more than ever, you can really make a difference by volunteering with Citizens Advice.

"Our frontline advisers are helping huge numbers of clients with their energy bills, budgeting and debts, and sadly we expect this to only continue.”

“As well as helping the local community, we know people who volunteer their time get a lot back.

"Whether it’s working as a team, learning new skills or campaigning on issues close to your heart, there are many fulfilling opportunities available.

"We’ll give you all the training you need and would love to hear from you."
